Big League was a brand of chocolate candy that was an early experiment from the makers of the popular shredded bubble gum, Big League Chew. The brand "Big League Chew" was created in 1977 by former minor league baseball pitcher Rob Nelson and his teammate Jim Bouton, as a tobacco-free alternative to the chewing tobacco popular with players at the time. The first batch of shredded bubble gum was handmade in 1979 and the product hit store shelves in 1980.
An experimental product called "Big League Plug," which was a chocolate bar, was released in 1982 but was short-lived. The company determined that the shredded gum formula was what made the brand a success and did not pursue the chocolate candy further.
The metal mold shown in the image is a vintage item that would have been used to make baseball-themed chocolate candies. Similar chocolate molds for baseball-themed candies and other sports are available for sale from various merchants.
